Significant Hike in Divorce Fees Expected

Unhappy couples considering divorce will be even unhappy with the new changes announced in the government’s new Federal Budget.

The Government has announced that as of 1 July 2015, the fee for obtaining a divorce from the Federal Circuit Court will dramatically increase. The fee to apply for divorce is currently $845.00; but it is estimated to rise to $1,500.00 or more when these changes come into effect.

If you own a concession or healthcare card, you may be able to apply for a reduction of the Court filing fee, although it is likely that this reduced fee may also be increased.  If you and your former spouse have been separated for 12 months and are considering divorce, you may wish to make the application prior to 1 July 2015 to avoid paying almost double in Government charges. If you require the assistance of an experienced lawyer and solicitor, Glenn Duker can help.

Protect Your Assets

There can be other financial irritants related to divorce, as well. If you separate, your former spouse will still get your assets unless you write a new will. A Divorce Order or a new will works to nullify your former spouse’s claims to your possessions, property, superannuation and life insurance.

If you and your partner have been separated for 12 months or more and are seeking divorce, please get in touch with lawyer and solicitor Glenn Duker as soon as possible. He can provide trusted legal advice, assist you in preparing the application for divorce as well as provide support during this difficult time.
